things n stuff

  • I decided to move offices at work. I'll be taking the 192.

  • After patting myself on the back today for remembering to bring my phone charger to work, I discovered that I left my phone at home.

  • My elf title will henceforth be Second Assistant Elf, Fruitcake Research and Development Dept., based on a co-worker's suggestion.

  • Dinner with Betsy and Steve last night at Navarre was filling and expensive, but not very impressive for the price. No subtleties of flavor in anything. The wine list, and the company (of course), were easily the high points.

  • Feeling a little phlegmatic and I'm worried I might be getting sick, so I'm keeping inoculated with Emergen-C. Might skip the gym tonight and watch a movie or something.

  • This plan would, unfortunately, require me to flake on cocktail plans later with some high school friends.

  • Starting already to get stressed about Christmas shopping. I think it's just a learned reaction at this point. Maybe this is the year I just put money in envelopes for everyone.

  • Things are otherwise fantastic.

Money in envelopes?! That's so sad and impersonal. :(

Yup. 16 family members to buy for, though, and they have been getting good stuff from me for about a decade now.

ori wonder if you could loan out your money in their names and have the loan repayment go back to each of them later?

Gift cards, seriously. Most grocery stores, book stores, and office supply stores have gift cards for dozens of stores available. Just pick up 16 of those all at one place, and your shopping is done.

Navarre has a killer and reasonably-priced breakfast menu, however. A point which Betsy made, I'm sure, since it was her who suggested we try it out some time ago.

She did indeed make that point, thanks for reminding me. I have yet to give it a breakfasty spin.

The 'varre

Navarre is a little hit and miss; it depends on what you order and who's cooking. I guess they rotate intern cooks through the kitchen, so you can get the same dish on two different nights and have two surprisingly different results.

I've got a little love for the place since it's where John took me on our first date. Plus, I've been there enough to know what to order. Frico, mmmm, the latkes, not so much.

Re: The 'varre

We had the frico, because (1) how can you go wrong with fried cheese, and (2) I really just wanted to try something called "freako."

Thanks for the note, though, maybe I'll give it another go sometime.

I always wondered about Navarre- the opinions I've heard are at each extreme- love it or hate it. The overall impression I get is "great idea- poorly executed" as is the case with so many Portland places (like McMenamins)

You're not actually inoculating with Emergen-C, you're immunizing. ;)

Actually, I don't even think you're doing that. But I know you're sure as hell not inoculating.

Supporting his immune system with extra potentially helpful, but possibly not, vitamin C. :)

But not like creating new antibodies or anything with that vitamin C. :)
