IKEA, it always makes me suspicious of your motives when you include extra hardware in the flatpack.

Current Mood: confused handy

When in doubt, I just start screwing shit on everything, if not for the aesthetic value.

Could be functional too. Hang your coffee mug on that hook protruding from the side of the bookcase.

cheaper than staffing people to take calls and send out parts when people break/lose things.

That I understand. But if they'd just be consistent about it. Two extra screws (different sizes) in one bookcase flatpack, an extra washer and plastic plug in the other.

yeah,

I wonder if there's some giant support back end that knows what people lose the most of, and what exactly they need to send extra.

Probably.

Damn Scandanavians.

Maybe the folks that assemble the little hardware packs are only marginally good at counting. I mean, maybe its not the best job in EU, ya know? and they figure a few extra screws here and there, 2 for you, 6 for me, etc. Its like taking white-out and paper clips home from the office. Maybe in Sweden, close doesn't count only in horseshoes.

In Soviet Sweden, IKEA furniture screws you?

It's not extra hardware. It's in-advance make-up hardware for the next thing you buy there that has two screws missing.

Fortunately I've never had that happen. In the Portland store over by the customer service desk, they have about 100 little bins with spare hardware pieces. Maybe it's like the "take a penny, leave a penny" deals in convenience stores, and I should drop off my extra doodads next time I'm there.

One can always use more dowel-based karma.
