I realize this is a completely selfish question, but is there any way that loudtwitter can be configured to incorporate an lj-cut into its update code?

aw, sorry guys! i will take the hint and start editing my twitter posts to be lj cut too. i don't want to disappoint my fans by not listening to hints like this... ; b

like arashikami, i don't see a way to make louttwitter do it automatically, but i often edit later to flock or add tags, so i will also start including a cut.

couldn't find anything in the loudtwitter faq that suggested it could be done. i'm sure that programmers much smarter than me could figure out a hack & make it work. i'd like that feature, as well as a privacy setting. that'd be dandy. in the meantime, since i edit all my twitterfeeds to friends-only, i'll add a cut out of courtesy. thanks for the heads up.

I think I might just use the "suggestion" link on his blog to ask if it might be a feature that could be incorporated easily. I was thinking of using twitter for myself and was curious about the options.

I frankly just don't get the twitter thing, unless you're signed up for twitter. If it ain't important enough to actually blog about, don't put it in your blog.

I don't really understand it. Suddenly I just started seeing all these posts popping up that looked like gibberish.

I'm on LJ because I like LJ. I shouldn't have to be subjected to the 10,000 networking sites I don't like.

I do get it in some of the ones I read, which are updates throughout the day, much like a type of "update" blog post ... in these cases, I (personally would rather read one post with six tweets than six separate update posts.

Some are more conversational with other twitter users, and reading them is sometimes frustrating because it's like listening to one person's side of a bunch of phone calls.

Oh, I hope there is! I've already removed 3 people from my friends list because I'm sick to death of seeing those damn things. I have a couple of friends who use it and it's not terrible because their daily LJ entry from it is only 5 or 6 lines long. There were a couple of people who were updating the damn thing every 10 minutes. Their LoudTwitter posts would be hugely long and completely nonsensical. I really don't need to scroll through endless inside jokes that I don't get.

Overall, I think the whole concept is a horrible idea. I have no clue why it's so popular. Do the people who use it really think, a year from now, they're going to look back on that and remember why on earth they posted "Dude, that was epic!" with no details?

Well, it's just like any other content, in that it's either got context or it doesn't.

I think twitter is easier to "abuse" in that sense because you only get to pop 100 characters' worth of content in, but I do read some twitterfeeds that are a cogent accumulation of mini-updates throughout the day. Since I also read some blog posts that are like your "Dude, that was epic!" example, I don't think it's necessarily a twitter thing, but a writer thing.

That's what I find intriguing about the anti-twitter protests: that y'all know folks who are (apparently) capable of being interesting in the one format, without being interesting in the other.

Only two folks on my f-list do loudtwitter -- and both of them are just as interesting on twitter as they are with LJ. But then, I know they both look at the 144-character limit as a challenge. Like writing a haiku.

Sadly, no.

It'd be nice if loudtwitter were able to use more LJ-specific fields. I set my LJ default to friends-only so that twitter posts wouldn't be public, but ideally the user would be able to set it to a custom friends level - then a cut wouldn't be necessary because you wouldn't even have to see it. While I have quite a few LJ readers who have commented that they enjoy my twitters, I see enough posts like this to know there are certainly as many people who find them annoying.

Re: Sadly, no.

The way I figure is that, as with any other post, one can simply scroll.

Although, I was mightily tempted to faux-bitch at you, just for fun. haha

Mwah. MWAH. :)

To quote from my own journal, this is how they appear to me:

@sistermaryeris YES
I just flossed.
@sistermaryeris LOL
My butt feels funny.
#drjeff I woke up
#drjeff wtf?
#drjeff My computer got updated.

Or, less interesting than that.

It's not a big deal to scroll. They only get posted once a day. That said, I would love a plug-in that just nukes 'em.

I've been thinking of using the application myself, but more for personal updates that might really be of interest to me ... I realize people can scroll, but if, like me, someone's got 8 or 10 people do daily twitter posts, I'd rather just minimize the amount of effort someone has to spend zipping past mine as well.

That, or I understand I might be able to make them private by default. I'm only just figuring it out.

I WISH.

I don't want to read Twitter, hence I do not belong to it.

STOP MAKING ME READ IT.
