a more perfect union

I think this speech made me a fanboi.

Here is the full text (as prepared for delivery), and here is a report that Obama himself wrote this speech.

I was listening to a historian on NPR talk about how the greatest Presedential orators were also great Presidents.

Even though this was Obama doing damage control the man is a master. I had goose bumps several times during the speech. Clearly he has the guts to be President.

I really hope he keeps coke and whores out of his Whitehouse.

Evidently so! It's been awhile since I've seen you use anything other than the Foamy icons when talking about politics. :)

It takes a rare event to keep Foamy at bay when talking politics.

Thank you, Tim, for sharing this. Obama's words just made my whole day. I think he is the best orator of my lifetime so far. If you think his speeches are good, you should check out the Audacity of Hope.

I'm not an Obama supporter. One of my primary issues has been in regard to his record. When l look at the anti-war speech and his voting record thereafter and his lack of speaking up on Iraq again until he sought the Presidency; his mixing up voting buttons 6-7 times and 140 "present" votes; his skipping his Foreign Affairs committee experience; writing a bill to appease the Illinois residents and then rewriting it to benefit his corporate contributor; his attacking Clinton on NAFTA and yet he supported the Peru Free Trade Act; his attacking Clinton on Kyle/Lieberman when he didn't even have the decency to show up to vote and so on.

His record made me question who he really is and stood for because I didn't see anything in his record that showed any conviction and ability to stand up for his beliefs. In fact what I saw was pushing wrong buttons, avoiding political flak, not showing up to vote on tough votes, trying to please both sides and in turn pleasing neither and so on. When the Wright videos came out it hit at the core of, "who is this man"? He had only tip-toed around the issue of race.

I still don't support Obama but I think he made an important speech and there is nothing I'd like to see more than him to continue to do so and go back and acquire more experience and give us a record of conviction if he expects us to believe he can implement big change and I for one will be one of his strongest supporters. He did well and all supporters of Obama and all open-minded Americans should be proud to have him on the political scene.

i agree with a lot of what you've said here. at first, i loved the "idea" of obama, but when i began to dig, i didn't find a ton of substance. all the present votes bothered me.

i loved this speech and shared it on my journal not to try to garner support for him but because of the content of the speech.

i am still undecided as to who i will vote for but this speech has done a lot of good for him in my eyes.

if he won the ticket and chose mike gravel as his running mate i'd probably pee my pants, i'd be so excited. :)
