random reflections on a rainy monday

I think I need a toaster oven if for no other reason than to make sourdough toast with butter and cinnamon sugar on it, which my grandmother still sometimes makes for me when I visit.

Today's rain feels pretty good on yesterday's sunburn.

I think that might become the next Oregon state motto.

Nic helped me pick and plant a ton of annuals yesterday, at the base of my dogwood in my front yard in the bed formed by the retaining wall that I put in last year. They look great, but today my hands and fingers are itching from about a hundred microscopic barkdust slivers.

Yes, I do own gardening gloves.

I haven't visited my grandparents in a long time. They're in Seattle, and, ridiculously, the only times I'd visit was when I drove up to visit IKEA, back in the dark days before Portland got its own.

I've noticed lawn signs around for one of the candidates for Mayor of Portland (Sho Dozono) with the campaign slogan "Sho Gets It. Sho Gets It Done." With a name like that, it's almost a crime that he's not using any of a half-dozen slogans Nic and I thought of in about a minute:
  • It's Sho-Time!
  • The Sho Must Go On! / On With The Sho!
  • Fo Sho!
  • Let's Get The Sho On The Road!
  • It's A Sho Thing!
  • Sho Me The Money! (ok, maybe not)
Generally speaking, sharing information (as opposed to personal opinions) should not be as difficult as it is, but I find that many people are simply unable to admit to not having already known something that they are told.

Don't forget Sho Nuff!

For the last couple weeks, I've been inserting "Fo sho... dozono!" into conversation whenever possible. And I'm a Sam Adams girl myself :)

What if they genuinely DID know it already? Are you suggesting that people say they were already told something even when they weren't?

Was this sparked by that dude and his tax evasion? ;^)

Ha - no, I don't think that dude even realizes that he doesn't know something.

This is more in general, from conversations with folks recently who seem to need to demonstrate that they know more than other people about everything. It's one thing to respond to "Hey, have you heard about X?" with "Yeah, pretty cool huh?" vs. "Um hel-LO, of COURSE. Do you think I'm an idiot?"

Ahhh, I see. Yeah, there is a very big difference between those two responses. I'd be pretty annoyed by someone who felt the need to respond in that manner, too.

after sho gets elected & you are tired of him, there can be signs that say "sho is tired" and "sho nuff"!

I make cinnamon (how on earth is that spelled?) toast, but in the toaster. Just have your butter soft and ready as soon as the toast gets out so you can spread it quick before things cool off.

This is a weird thing, but I've never liked toast made from a toaster. I like it either grilled, or done in a toaster oven. It's not that you can apply butter before you heat it up, it's a texture thing.

Wow. I had no idea there was a difference. Now I want toaster-oven toast to see what it's like.

Also, just go buy a freaking toaster oven. That's way too cheap a thing to debate over. I'm sending you the Consumer Reports toaster ovens ratings to spur you to action.

Which is the one that gay people win when they make a certain number of other people gay? That's the model I want.

That's a special model, only available via the members-only catalog. No retail, sorry.

you can have my toaster oven. I never use it and honestly don't see a difference between toaster and toaster oven toast. Its not the supreme gay toaster oven, but its free.

I love that your grandma still makes you cinnamon toast. My grandpa (90) hands me booze when I go see him. :)
