It doesn't surprise me terribly. There's some obviously fucked up code deeply embedded in Facebook. I had to contact customer service because their automated sign-up wigit refused to believe that my name could possibly be a valid human name. Meanwhile, my friend who signed up with the name of 'Kajatu Kulubali' got in just fine.

We do similar stuff in our code at work, to find names that "sound the same". I'll bet "cindi" and "cohen" are similar enough, due to the c, n, and vowels. It's stupid that they did that comparison, however.
