kiss x2

I just ordered this, a few lenses, a spare battery, some memory, a flash, and a bag:

The macro lens I ordered isn't in stock, so the flood of close-up shots of dust motes on my coffee table won't start for another month or so.

I am so jealous.

I've been camera researching for the past two days and I cant seem to find exactly what I want. Probably because I cant quite nail down exactly what it is that I want. But I want something.

That's the current version of my old Rebel. You'll be surprised at the macro shots the default lens can produce. I also have a telephoto lens, but usually I only carry the 18-55mm around. Laziness could play a factor in that.

Join us.

That's the current version of my old Rebel.

Me too. I only have a 50mm prime lens, but that alone is enough to satisfy me for now. :)

Re: Join us.

Sweet. I ordered a thrifty fifty in addition to the kit lens, so it sounds like I'll be covered for a lot of different shots.

I'm excited to see what it can do. Or rather, what I can do with it.

I assume you were looking at the 17th street photo site (one of three links from the link you provided) when you were saying it was backordered at $475.

B&H has it in stock for $455. They're a solid outfit and I'd vouch for them any day of the week.

It is sold for $455 through Amazon as well, and also in stock.

Last night when I ordered it from Amazon, it said it would be in stock in a month. If it's changed since then, sweet!

I ordered it through Amazon, but maybe I'll look into canceling it and buying it from B&H. Thanks!

I was playing around with my first digital point and shoot the other night, the LCD is about 1.5". How did we ever deal with such primitive equipment?

That's what I have too. I love it. Especially the higher ISO and bigger screen. I stepped up from a 10D. Huge difference!

The Rebel is on my ZOMGWANT list. It's been there for about 2 years.

I bought a used one on Craigslist last year. It's the way to go! After saving up, I spent $350 for the camera, a very nice camera bag, memory, a low-quality lens, and battery pack. Then I spent $50 on a used Canon 50mm/1.8 lens, which is the only one I use, and I was ready to go. You don't need the latest, fanciest model and lots of lenses to get started!

Whaadda ya mean a FEW lenses, Mr Moneybags?? How many did you buy? :)

The 50mm 1.8 I ordered off of Ebay is going back to the seller, its not working right. We'll see if I get my money back or what....

3:
- Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (kit lens)
- Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
- Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro (this was the splurge)

Good choices on lens. You'll love that last one since you get 1:1 lifesize images. Problem I've run into is lighting up dark subjects. You might want to get an external flash head in the future or try to diffuse the pop-up flash on the camera body to help in this area. You'll have lots of fun.

Woo!

Sexay.

I somehow made it out of art school never learning how to operate a proper camera. I dumped a bunch of money into an SLR about ten years ago, and just never had the time to sort it all out. I'm sure digital would help alot, since it's instant feedback.

Hopefully. Would your lenses work with a digital body?

I have that same macro lens. Love it. Good stuff and affordable for a macro lens. Good camera too. Look forward to your pics.
