this is going to sound like subtle ridicule, but I promise it isn't

Nic and I were discussing lifestyle choices this weekend, and how far individuals extend their own lifestyle choices to those around them. For example, we were curious whether vegans feed their pets vegan pet food and use non-leather collars, etc.

So it turns out that apparently such products are pretty readily available.

I can't find much about pet baptism, though¹, which seems a little surprising, when you think about it.

1. Well, not in this century, at least.

oh, the poor sad vegan doggies...

I'm reasonably sure that the few vegans I have known, have still fed their dogs meat-based dog food.

I once talked to a lady who was flying to another state so her dog could get married.

Animals don't have souls, hence no baptism.

WHAT?

Of course animals have souls. All living things have souls. That's what life is!

I was not putting forth my belief, I was putting forth the belief of most modern Christians, and why they don't baptize animals.

Must be another idea of American fundies. Over here in Britain, virtually any Christian would say animals have souls.

Would British Christians baptize an animal?

No. We have animal blessings, but there's no need to baptise someone who, by their very nature, is closer to God than we can ever be.

We're vegetarians and we feed our kitties a raw meat diet.

If I could, I would feed my dog a vegan diet.

That is to say, I would feed him vegans.

No two vegans are alike. That said, a close friend of mine, who happens to be vegan, feeds his (very happy and healthy) dog a vegan diet.

Dogs can survive (miserably) on a vegetarian diet. Don't know about vegan, but I suppose it wouldn't kill them. Cats, on the other hand, are true carnivores. Many vets are very angry with the trend for feeding cats vegetarian diets. The digestive system slowly and painfully shuts down and, if the diet is continued (assuming the cat has no opportunity to hunt meat for itself) the cat dies. It's cruelty.
