In his blog, phasmaphobic is musing about his costume for this Halloween, and I figure I should probably start deciding too, especially if it would require any changes to my current bald face, bald[ing]-headed coif, or expanding waistline. First, the rundown from years past:

Halloween 2005Halloween 2006Halloween 2007Halloween 2008
Van Gogh's
Self-Portrait with Felt Hat
TintinShaunNo clue

For this year, I've considered two ideas so far:
  1. Rorschach, from Watchmen.
    • Requirements: Inkblot facemask, tattered hat and trenchcoat, gloves, scarf, and (if I'm feeling fancy) purple pinstripe suit pants ... bonus props: little notebook, smiley button with blood spatter.
    • Pros: Would look hella fucking cool.
    • Cons: None that I can see.

  2. Xerxes, from 300.
    • Requirements: Brown bodysuit, shit-ton of fake jewelry and chains, metallic codpiece, nerves of steel.
    • Pros: The shape I'm in now, it would be pretty damn funny.
    • Cons: The shape I'm in now, it would be pretty damn terrifying. Plus, chilly.
Suggestions, as always, are welcome.

Do Rorshach. If the movie is successful, this might be your last chance without looking ubertrendy, and if the movie is unsuccessful, this might be your last chance to dress up like that without having to constantly explain you're replicating the classic graphic novel and not the POS movie.

POS? Aw, man ... it kinda looks like it'll be good, from the trailers.

So did LXG. :)

Then again, V really was a decent movie, so who knows? We'll find out when it comes out, and there will either be fanboy spooging or gnashing of teeth/rending of hair. Probably, copious quantities of both.

I also vote Roschach. 300 is already cliché, but you'll be ahead of the hype curve with Watchmen. Visibility might be a factor, depending on what you use for his "face".

Ed and I WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT THIS!
We like to do the inappropriate if possible couple costumes.

Personally I vote for Xerxes, but I hear you on the "not in the right shape" thing. So, you are excused. :)

The other one looks super neato! I like that dude even if I have no idea who it is.

What about the Joker?! ;D

I would consider the Joker if I wasn't certain that about it'll likely be the most popular costume for dudes this year.

For real. That's a bummer too, because you would REALLY pull it off nice.

Maybe you should do it to show up the lame costumes?

Ha - I think it would definitely be fun, but (for example) I can't grow my hair out in time.

How about Speed Racer or Maxwell Smart?

Ok, I'm done now. :D

I like the first idea you had too.

Dr M certainly presents fewer costume requirements, i.e., softly radiating blue full-body makeup or bodysuit, but very similar cons. I suspect I might be mistaken for an inebriated, slovenly outcast of the Blue Man Group. Perhaps if I work out for a couple years or develop the technology to generate extremely local CGI effects, I'll try it in the future.

Or maybe I'll lock myself into a nukular reactor and see what happens.

You could really throw people for a loop by going as the Masked Bandit :P

While it definitely wins the cool factor vote, I shall reiterate what I mentioned previously. Face mask= NOT FUN and NOT comfortable for any type of socializing. But that is my statement on the Xerxes costume as well.

What if you beat the curve again and go as the Riddler?

Since you can't go as the Joker, go as Two Face!

All you need is some hydrochloric acid and a LOT of pain meds. But it's worth it for the trophies.
