Well, one of the several dozen storm warnings we've had in the Portland area actually came to fruition today. A few inches so far and more to come, apparently. We'd planned on making the drive down to Salem later tonight to see Dad in his annual Christmas Concert, but I'm not sure that's going to happen now. We're wrapping presents and testing various liquors in coffee and cocoa instead.

Be well and warm!

I destroyed the chains on Nic's car by driving too fast on the highway a few days ago, but we have two grocery stores in walking distance, so I think we're pretty much ok to avoid driving. If you risk going out again and make it to our end of town, stop by for a toddy!

That would be sweet, but I'm in my jammies and stayin' that way. Just waiting for The Eris to fire up the oven and start doing some baking. :)

Much love to you guys!

Personally, I'd like it more if this city had the capacity to deal with its presence. As it is, it's just dangerous. If this happened in the Northeast, the roads would have been treated and cleared already.

Treated with salt though, in the NE, and that just kills plants, fish in the streams, and ruins cars. People should learn to take more public transportation here or get over it. You can't have no sales tax AND road service in the snow. Gotta choose one or the other, OR doesn't have the $$$$

Also, more people in the NE have cars that are totally prepared no matter what they do to the roads. Like AWD and snow tires. I'm from the NE and I have a car with snow tires and all wheel drive, so getting around for me has been fine

It's funny though, how many people couldn't get around on the work days (including my employees), but suddenly, on the weekend, they are EVERYWHERE!

No road service because of no sales tax? That's a bit of a stretch. Besides, salt's not the only option. Plowing, gravel, de-icer, etc., are all good. Even a small yearly budget would be acceptable to build up a workable supply for a big emergency.

Growing up and working in the NE, I had a little Corolla. Got around fine in the snow, but that was because they took care of the roads. Not so much here. And PT doesn't exactly work realistically if you have to spend hours standing around in the cold waiting for connections.

I'm fine with it just snowing once in awhile, so that I can get pictures.

I *finally* remembered to buy snow chains this year. It's only been how long since we moved here?

Here's where I just got mine. They're based in Oregon too so it shouldn't take too long to get them, especially since most places around here are probably out. I just got these. We'll see how they work :)

Good call! I was checking that site out and came across these babies:

400 bucks, but in sheer bad-assness? Priceless.

Dood yeah! I was looking at those too, but I don't think my car is badass enough to warrant those guys. Hell, I even balked at the heavier duty cable types because it involves moving the car and using a cable-tensioner system as opposed to the standard rubber-band types. I'm a wuss.

Oh, speaking of, I ordered mine on Thurdsay and they're still not here yet. I don't think UPS is doing much these days.

Some good options for cocoa:
- peppermint schnapps
- kahlua
- grand marnier
- amaretto

And thanks. :)

Also, my brand new favorite: Cocoa and Irish Whiskey.

It's all Betsy's fault, but that's OK. It is GOOOOOD.

Well I make a syrup of whiskey and cocoa ... then I add the filler (water or milk, whatev) and there you go. It's awesome. :)
