moar moar snow

Four more from last night's dusting. It had all melted by this morning.

Those lamps in the park cast a yellowish light, but not quite that yellow. I like the effect, but I need to figure out the concept of white balance.

Canon Digital Rebel XSi; there is, I just haven't learned how and when to tweak it.

Right now I just use iPhoto for editing. As a result, any retouching on my images is pretty rudimentary.

not sure if you wanted someone to tell you how....but, you press the "wb" button on the back, to the right of the LCD screen, and set it that way, or customize it by choosing custom.

I know what buttons to press. It's the why and when that I'm figuring out. But thank you!

The "why" would be "Because you want what your brain perceives as white when you're viewing your subject through the viewfinder to be perceived as white by those who view the resulting photo."

The "when" would be "any time you're not shooting RAW, the above 'why' criteria is met, you have the requisite few seconds to set it up, and you have an appropriately color-neutral object with which to orient the camera's brain."

Easy, but not necessarily simple. Or maybe with Canon it's the other way around. Either way, fun times.

Sodium Vapor? Metal Halide? Those are some orange-ish lights for sure!

Gas lights, for all I know. More likely sodium, I think, because they have a more contemporary look about them as compared with the otherwise 1910-era architecture in the park, but I don't know. Now I'm curious!

Also know that if you set your white balance for incandescent light, when you go inside and forget to change it - everything will be SUPER BLUE. :)

Nice photos!
