Are you using a hammer and finish nails? May I offer you the use of my pin nailer and compressor? Makes hanging trim about 5x faster and virtually no chance of holes in wall.

Thanks Jeff! I am using a friend's brad nailer and compressor. The hole in the wall resulted from my attempt to enlarge the existing opening for an outlet box so that I could have some leeway in locating an opening in the baseboard to be mounted there. Good news is that (1) the baseboard actually covers the hole, and (2) now there is plenty of leeway.
