will you still spam me, when i'm ... er, 69

Just wandered into my "bulk" e-mail folder just for fun, and deleted over 200 messages that were sent to me from the future (specifically, Monday, January 18, 2038).

At first, I was comforted to know that rocketing stock offers, v!@gr@, diplo mas based on my life exp erience, mortg@ge refinancing, and, of course, pr0n, will all still be just a click away, when I retire.

But then I thought that perhaps Monday, January 18, 2038, will be the last day ever that spam will be sent, for whatever reason. Perhaps legislation will be passed making spam a capital offense, and future technology will allow for immediate eradication of a spammer as soon as his bot executes a "send" command. Maybe, on that day, humanity will suddenly and unanimously conclude that spam is, well, just totally uncool. Maybe the internets will explode. Maybe the world will end (although I'm pretty sure there'll be spam in Hell).

So I guess what I'm receiving are panicked messages from the future, from all of the spammers who are somehow unable to continue peddling their e-services after that date. Poor guys.

But what a bright future to look forward to.
