little blue dog

my name is ted

Back when I did stage plays, one of the things that helped me get into character was the costume. For me, to look the part was to feel the part, especially if the designer was good.

I'm reminded of this today because I'm wearing the sexy new work boots L got me for Christmas. Each shoe features a short zipper on the interior side, which have a tendency to make a soft, yet audible clicking sound when I walk, when the zipper pulls hit the exposed zipper teeth.

Execising just a teeny stretch of the imagination makes this noise into a clinking sound, one clink for every step I take.

Like spurs.

As a result, I've had a natural instinct this morning when I walk to slow down my pace, bow my legs a bit, relax my hips, flex my knee just slightly more on every step, and even cock my head slightly to the side and feel like I should be wearing a hat.

Clink. Clink. Clink.

Just a few minutes ago, as I ambled back from the printer, I said "Howdy" to one of my bosses, successfully fighting the urge to follow up the salutation with "partner," even though, in fact, that's what he is.
