deep and crisp and even

Probably about 7-8 inches of snow yesterday, glazed with a solid top layer from some sleet late last night and this morning, topped with another inch or two of snow this afternoon. Made an attempt at shoveling the sidewalk, but only got the front walk done before I decided to scrap it. Peaceful outside, though; stopped several times to listen to an almost unbroken silence, punctuated with clicking and creaking from the iced branches overhead deciding whether to snap off or not (none did), and distant voices of nighttime walkers calling to each other.

Found an auto parts store within a few miles of home earlier, so we chained up Nic's car, then made a roast and mashed potatoes for dinner, wrapped a few more presents, and hunkered down for some couch time. It's been a nice weekend to just stay housebound and just enjoy each other's company.
