you know ...

I feel kind of like Joey when he confesses that he doesn't know what the air quote finger gesture means, but I have absolutely no clue why "that's what SHE said" is considered to be such a hilarious catchphrase.

It's ok, I'd rather remain in the dark on this.

See, in golden opportunities like that, I think it's funnier just to reply with an expression. :)

True, but I don't use it all the time like some people :)

"That what she said" can be funny enough in the right contexts, although I think it works better to specify who "she" is. It's far overused and not nearly as funny as people pretend.

Ugh I loathe that expression. Probably bc the girlfriend of an acquaintance overuses it.

Hi
Wednesday, April 8th, 2009 10:48 pm (UTC)

in my experience this phrase said after a phrase that has sexual innuendo/connotations...for example

For example: Your friend says after finishing a project "That was long and hard."
One could them reply "That's what she said."
This is to imply there is a SHE in his life and ha ha, that is what she said to them...bleh it is easier to demonstrate =)

of course the use of this is a bit presumptuous that if using the catch phrase around a male, it is naturally assumed they are dating a female and not a male, thus hence, that's what she said but of course there are plenty of innuendos out there where that's what he said can be played as well.

Overall, this phrase is used quite often by the main character Michael from "The Office"

Hahaha. We had this conversation a few weeks ago.

I love that Friends episode. "I'm sorry."

hehe.

Anyway. Glad you got your explanation.

It's WAY overused, but in the right context, it can be hilarious.

I feel the same way. I think it's because it is so rarely actually funny.

Hahahaa, I think it comes from the office? I don't know, I never watch TV, like ever. I still think it's the best cap to a string of "Your Mom" jokes.

"I hate it when people do that."
"I hate it when YOUR MOM does that."
"Yeah, well I hate it when YOUR FACE does that!"
"...that's what SHE said!"

(The entire type of conversations I ever had with my ex! haha.)

arrrgh.

there is nothing better than gratuitous unfunny explanations of unfunny stuff to make even lamer.

THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID.

This was maybe funny like 10 years ago, but since then, everyone who says it should be punched in the face.

Now see, I think that makes more sense: to see how many overused catchphrases you can string together in a coherent (or incoherent) conversation.

"That's what she said" is funny because Michael Scott uses it in extremely inappropriate situations.

'nuff said.

Why the hell does this comment have a date of April 13th on it? I replied on the 9th.

Anyway, I'll take any excuse to refer to or talk about The Office. :)
