Q:

My desktop's system performance has become more and more glonky over the past few months. I defrag and run anti-virus and -spyware apps regularly, but I suspect the poor performance might be due to installing (and then uninstalling) various applications. However, I'm kind of scared to go goofing around in my registry.

So here's my question: what else can/should I do? I'm thinking about reinstalling the OS (it's Windows XP), but what steps should I take before I do this? (i.e., will my other applications be wiped out? will the various scraps of other applications be wiped out?)

on kind of a related note:

Every day I walk to work, and I swing by the Seattle's Best by PSU to grab a cuppa. Typically I shun the fancy drinks for the straight-up drip, but their stuff is beatter than what I can make at home. I'll spend about $1.80 every morning. That's about $36 per month. You know what I could buy for a little more than $36 per month? Well hello there.
