Taking off at noon today to go rafting on the White Salmon River with peeps from work ... then a BBQ afterwards, then poker. Ah the life.
The Hang cannot join, so I'm taking my buddy X, who is currently decompressing after rocking the bar exam.

I wrote 16 pages of an appeal brief yesterday. Six. Teen.
Half of my job is writing essays about stuff, you know, like a paperclip or a hitch or a knee joint of a Barbie doll. The other half, I just argue. They say something, I say "nuh-uh." It's really antagonistic, when you think about it. Which I do. Too much.
Sixteen pages of "nuh-uh." I am a nuh-uh MACHINE.

I'm getting so excited about the house I could spit. Scheduled to close this Friday, so hopefully my realtor won't "forget" anything this time around.
The current wrinkle is that the reappraisal didn't work, and the bank won't raise the purchase price by the amount I'm asking the sellers to front for closing. Result: I gotta pay it.
It's funny ... the amount I'll have to bring to closing is actually no more than I thought I'd originally have to pay at the beginning of this entire process. The weird thing is that my comfort level seems tied to the amount of cash I'll have left after acquisition. Not that I immediately want to buy a ton of fancy stuff, but it's just going to make me a little nervous reducing my emergency fund to nearly zero.
BUT!!! I'LL HAVE A SWEET CRIB! wOOt!

Today's "did you know?!" random fact:
This symbol: # -- is called an "octothorpe." That's so cRaZy!
In Norwegian, the symbol is a firkant (square); in Spanish, almohadilla (little pillow); in German, Doppelkreuz (double cross).
The word apparently has an unsubstantiated etymology. One story has it that Bell Labs supervisor Don Macpherson coined it in the early 1960s; octo for the eight points, and thorpe after 1912 Olympic medalist Jim Thorpe. Other stories stick with Bell Labs, but attribute the origin to "Charles B. Octothorpe" or "John B. Octothorp."
