I chose Van Gogh, but I'm going to go as one of his self-portraits. I figure that's still in keeping with the theme, since his self-portraits are ... well, at least how he saw himself.
Here's the one I'd like to do:
I figure the first challenge will be getting myself a hat with that shape. The jacket and yellow tie/cravat/ascot are not so important, since everything will be painted: hat, clothing, face.
Thus, the bigger challenges will be painting the clothing and doing facial makeup ... but I've never painted fabric before and it's been years since I gave all of my stage makeup away.
SO - my request for advice:
1) any ideas on where I can find a hat like that? I'm not fussy about color, something neutral and light would be fine, since I'll be painting it anyway.
2) any ideas on the best type of paint I should use on typical clothing fabrics (cotton, felt, poly, etc.) ... and where to get it?
3) any ideas on where I can find a good selection of facial makeup? It doesn't have to be stage makeup, but I'll need a good base and several different colors of pencils, including some blues, greens, oranges, and yellows, in addition to flesh tones.
Thanks for your feedback!
