what I learned today

When I was a kid, I learned that truffles are a kind of underground mushroom that are considered somewhat of a delicacy because of their rarity and flavor.

Having never actually eaten or even seen one, however, I had always assumed that the chocolate confections also known as truffles were, essentially, clods of fungus that had been flavored and/or covered with chocolate.

Well, they're not. :)

On a related note, I've always found that the manner in which one person imparts knowledge to another says a lot about him or her as a person. I am fortunate to be in the company of gracious (and culinarily knowledgeable) co-workers.
