Having never actually eaten or even seen one, however, I had always assumed that the chocolate confections also known as truffles were, essentially, clods of fungus that had been flavored and/or covered with chocolate.
Well, they're not. :)
On a related note, I've always found that the manner in which one person imparts knowledge to another says a lot about him or her as a person. I am fortunate to be in the company of gracious (and culinarily knowledgeable) co-workers.
